FUN FACT! JAW Manager, Abbie, did her year 10 work experience at the JAW office!
In 2017, when Abbie was in year 10, her cohort had the opportunity to do a weeklong ‘work experience’ working within a local business. Typically, students used this experience to trial an industry or job that they were interested in. For some of her peers, this meant working in the construction and building industry, for others it meant taking up a role in a hairdressing salon. For Abbie, this meant heading to the JAW office alongside her parents to see what a day in the life at JAW really looked like.
With working experience at JAW under her belt, Abbie already had some idea of what the work day looked like, but after taking on a weeklong work week, she was surprised to find that it was so much more than what she thought.
For the week, Abbie found herself split amongst the JAW team, working each day with a different team member to gain a better insight into each role. She worked one day with the HR and Marketing person, another with her dad as the logistics officer, she spent one day alongside the receptionist and the others in her mum’s office, learning about all things JAW.
Of all, her favourite role of the experience was her Mum’s. Sitting upstairs in the main office, learning about JAW’s workings, from backend website work to payroll and expenses, to client and distributor communications and social media planning just to name a few, Abbie was kept on her toes but she LOVED IT!
Fast forward 5 years and Abbie now works alongside her Mum, doing those exact tasks as well as a few others, daily. Never did she think that after some time away from JAW exploring the hospitality and retail world, that she would land back in JAW, working for a business she is as proud of and loves as much as she does with JAW!
